Hi, I'm Vinita
Plant-Based Vinita is my space for all things food, creativity, and everyday nourishment. My journey began during the lockdown after watching The Game Changers a documentary that sparked my vegan journey and pulled me into the kitchen for the very first time.
What started as simple experiments quickly became something I loved sharing. Over time, that curiosity turned into a deeper focus on creating plant-based recipes that feel good, look beautiful, and fit into real life, like this chocolate cake that proves you don't need dairy to make something truly indulgent.
How it all started
FROM SELLING TO SHARING
For about two to two and a half years, I sold plant-based food through Instagram. It was joyful and chaotic and very much a pandemic-era thing. Then, as life opened back up, I returned to my real full-time work — I'm a ceramic artist, and my gallerist rediscovered me, and I went back to my studio.
I couldn't keep selling food at the same pace. But I didn't want to stop creating altogether. So I made a shift: instead of selling, I started developing recipes and making content around them. Honestly? That suits me better. I love the process of innovation — taking an unfamiliar or underused ingredient and figuring out what it can do. Especially when it's something rooted in Indian kitchens that hasn't quite made it to the "trendy food" conversation yet.
THE SHIFT
Over the past three and a half years, my focus has quietly shifted. Being vegan means you have to stay on top of your nutrition — blood work, protein, fibre, all of it. When I actually paid attention, I realised my diet was quite low in protein. That didn't mean I had to stop being vegan. It meant I had to eat more intentionally.
That shift shows up in the recipes now. You'll find dishes that are plant-based but built to actually nourish — protein-forward, fibre-rich, and (hopefully) genuinely delicious. I also work with plant-based brands I believe in, and showcase them through the recipes the way I'd naturally cook with them.
In early 2020, my family watched The Game Changers — a documentary following elite athletes who had transformed their performance by going plant-based. I was deep into fitness at the time and was training people online, and something about what I saw genuinely moved me. It felt worth trying.
Then lockdown happened. Restaurants closed, ordering in felt uncertain, and I didn't fully trust what was in the food available to me. So I started making things from scratch — and posting about it, mostly because there was nothing else to do.
What started as a way to pass time became something my friends actually looked forward to. I'd put up little quizzes on Instagram: What's the hero ingredient in today's brownie? People would guess, engage, ask for more. And then, very quickly, they started nudging me to sell.

Indian kitchens have never needed a wellness trend to eat well. I'm here to celebrate what we already have and use it in ways that feel exciting and new.
